Gordillo

1985-1992

Full Name / Place of birth / Date of birth

Rafael Gordillo Almendralejo (Spain) / 24/02/1957

Football for fun

Ramón Mendoza signed Rafael Gordillo, a star player who had previously played for Betis and Spain, as one of his standout acquisitions. Everyone respected him for his abilities, dedication, and charm both on and off the field. The supporters also adored him for his unusual running gait and carefree appearance, which included his socks turned down.

When Gordillo joined Real Madrid’s “Quinta del Buitre” (also known as “The Vulture Squadron”) at the age of 28, his first season was quite disappointing because he was sidelined for the majority of the year by injuries he sustained.

Following his recuperation, he started playing frequently in the 1986–1987 campaign for one of the greatest teams in the club’s history—a team that went on to win five Ligas in a succession and ultimately take control of Spanish football. In June 1992, he left the squad to help Betis get promoted to the First Division, which was his first home.

Along with playing in two World Cups (Spain 1982 and Mexico 1986) and three European Championships (Italy 1980, France 84, and Germany 88), he also had a fantastic career with Spain, winning 75 caps. Highlights of his international career included qualifying Spain for the European Championship in France in 1984 (second place) and the historic 12-1 victory over Malta.

Cristiano Ronaldo

2009 – 2018

The all-time leading goalscorer for Real Madrid

As one of the greatest icons in Real Madrid’s history, Cristiano Ronaldo is ingrained in the club’s legacy and will always be revered. Following his unveiling on July 6, 2009, at the Santiago Bernabéu, where he was accompanied by Eusebio and Alfredo Di Stéfano, the goals have not stopped coming.

In 438 competitive games with Real Madrid, he scored 451 goals (averaging more than one goal per game). Three dozen in La Liga, 105 in the Champions League, twenty-two in the Copa del Rey, six in the Club World Cup, four in the Spanish Super Cup, and two in the UEFA Super Cup were among the competitions in which he registered.

The Portuguese attacker, who has an amazing trophy haul as a Real Madrid player—four Champions League titles, three Club World Cups and UEFA Super Cups each, two LaLiga titles, two Copas del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups—has scored the most goals of any player in the history of the team. Four Ballons d’Or, three Golden Shoe awards, two The Best honors, three UEFA Best Player in Europe titles, and three Pichichi crowns round out his impressive collection of accolades.

A record-filled spell
Ronaldo set several remarkable records during his nine seasons as a Real Madrid player: he became the club’s all-time top scorer, the greatest scorer in the history of the European Cup (having scored 105 goals for Real Madrid in the Champions League), the all-time top madridista goalscorer in La Liga (312), the record holder for the most games in which a player scored three or more goals in La Liga history (34), and the record holder for the most goals scored by a Real Madrid player in a single season (61).
