When Real Madrid won their sixth European championship in 1966, De Felipe was one of the heroes of the European Cup Final in Brussels. De Felipe was a member of the ‘Yeyé’ team, a group of football players that, along with Araquistáin, Pachín, Sanchís, Pirri, Amancio, and Paco Gento, made sure Real Madrid ruled the game in Spain in the 1960s.
With great courage, De Felipe took on the challenging task of taking Santamaría’s place in the center of the Madrid defense, a task he accomplished with great skill. His confident defense was one of the factors that allowed the team to win awards year after year, and his assistance was crucial to the victory of
He was immediately called up for the national squad because of his excellent achievements with Real Madrid. He was unfortunate enough to break his knee during his 1967 international debut, though. He had surgery and missed several months of competitive play.
He played for Real Madrid’s youth squads for the majority of his career before making his first team debut in the 1964–1965 campaign. He joined Espanyol after winning a ton of trophies with the Whites, where he retired in 1978. He died on April 12, 2016.
