After going through the Real Madrid academy system, Victor made his first-team debut for the Arsenio Iglesias-led club against Zaragoza at La Romareda in May 1996. He was a key member of Fabio Capello’s team from the beginning of the next season and helped the team win the LaLiga championship. He was the starting right winger for the team and appeared in 41 of the 48 games that season.
He participated extensively in the 1997–98 season as well, although this time he was in the dugout with Jupp Heynckes. The Spanish Super Cup triumph over Barcelona marked the start of that memorable season. Víctor participated in the victory in the second leg at Santiago Bernabéu.
The midfielder made seven appearances in route to the epic final in Amsterdam, making that year unique in the club’s history due to the seventh European Cup. In fact, he scored one of his nine Madridista goals at the Bernabéu against Olympiacos by selecting the continental competition. He departed for Racing after winning the Champions League, and he had a great Primera División career (more than 300 matches) with Deportivo de La Coruña. He was a complete Spanish international as well.
