Former President Donald Trump’s close ally Steve Bannon was released from federal jail on Tuesday after serving four months for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the House select committee looking into the violence at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Due to appeals, Mr. Bannon’s 2022 conviction on two charges of contempt of Congress was postponed for two years.
He was ordered to report to prison in June by Trump appointment U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols. One week before Election Day, the former Trump White House advisor and podcaster is now free.
The 70-year-old Mr. Bannon completed his term at a Danbury, Connecticut, low-security jail. Days before President Biden withdrew his candidacy for reelection, he walked through its doors.
Since then, a lot has changed, with Mr. Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in a close battle.
The podcast “Bannon’s War Room,” which has made Mr. Bannon most famous, has minimized the Jan. 6 attack and echoed Mr. Trump’s worries about election fraud.
A former investment banker, Mr. Bannon gained notoriety while working for the hardline Breitbart magazine.
