Trump visits Texas to tape Joe Rogan’s podcast and to criticize Harris on immigration AP, Austin, Texas — On Friday, Donald Trump attempted to use a significant celebration for Kamala Harris as a springboard for an attack on immigration, one of his favorite topics.
Eleven days before the election, Trump and Harris both briefly visited Texas, which leans heavily Republican, as a diversion from their journeys through battleground states. They are using the state as a backdrop to convey a message about the topics they want voters to be thinking about when they cast their ballots, but neither party thinks the state is competitive. That’s border security for Trump. It’s abortion rights for Harris.
Trump is intensifying his already ominous and apocalyptic rhetoric against illegal immigration with his visit to Texas, his second visit to a border state in two days.
Trump told supporters in Austin on Friday, “We’re like a garbage can for the rest of the world to dump the people that they don’t want.”
The comment is “just another example of how he really belittles our country,” according to Harris.
“Instead of someone like Donald Trump, who is continuously disparaging and demeaning the American people, the president of the United States should be someone who elevates discourse, talks about the best of who we are, and invests in the best of who we are,” Harris told reporters in Houston.
